A foreign assignment poses a great challenge and adventure to parents, but perhaps even more so to their children. The school which is chosen by the parents will play an important role in the children's integration into the exciting, new country.
Adults often place most importance on the language aspects, however, children - and especially small children - are happiest in a personal environment where they feel comfortable and accepted for who they are, despite being new to their surroundings, and especially while going through the unsettling relocation process.
The social aspect is one of the main elements of the Waldorf curriculum and philosophy. Strong value is put on social interaction between children and teachers as well between parents and teachers. Children interact with each other in their own classes as well as across classes, supported by common creative activities (theatre, choir, orchestra…).

Classes are made up of between 15 to 25 students at the Saint Genis Laval School (Lyon). This allows children to get to know each other, as well as allowing teachers to get to know each and every child and to ensure individual support. The modest size (max. 200 students) and the educational philosophy of the school mean that children can develop in a supportive and stress-free environment.

The Steiner School of Lyon is open to children of all nationalities and offers an interesting alternative to the National Education System. We have welcomed families of all nationalities (German, Dutch, Brazilian, Japanese…) to our school, and they have greatly appreciated the opportunity to discover our rich social environment, despite the initial language barriers. As such the school has proven itself to be key towards successful integration and support for families.
